The Human resources management course will be:

  1. Structured according to 5 micro courses of 30 hours each (or 3 OERu points) i.e.
    • North America - 4 x Micros @ 0.75 credits each totalling 3 credits
    • New Zealand - 5 x Micros of 3 credits each totalling 15 credits.
  2. Learning sequences designed to support learning in preparation for assessment at 1st and 3rd year levels.

Interaction strategies

Student-content interactions

  • Each learning pathway will incorporate a video signposts that will be used to provide students with an orientation or stimulus for each of the major topics.
  • Learners will work through a series of learning pathways designed for independent study.
  • Each learning pathway will incorporate one or more learning challenges. These learning challenges will be designed to function as building blocks for the final course assessment. We envisage separate e-Learning activies for 1st and 3rd year levels
  • OERu resource bank where learners are encourage to share links to resources they find on HRM related to their own countries.
  • Each learning pathway should, where possible incorporate a short interactive quiz using MCQs with formative feedback.

Student-student interactions

  • Students will be able to interact via a number of MOOC-like technologies which will be harvested for an aggregated timeline / course feed incorporating interactions from:
    • WENotes micro-comment activities and posts. The comment field will be provided on individual course pages on the course site
    • Discussion forum posts - currently using Discourse unless alternate platform is selected.
    • Personal blog posts and comments

Student-support interactions

  • Students will be encouraged to use a the peer-support question and answer forum for addressing support questions.
  • Self-study help tutorials will be provided for the main technologies used in the course and linked as footnote links in the course site.

Course site structure

  • Will adopt the OERu course structure based on main navigation for:
    • Start here
    • Course guide (Course aims, course resources, syllabus or schedule, course assignment and recommended resources.)
    • Interactions (Course announcements, and course feed)
    • Learning pathways (i.e. learning materials directing the study of the open textbook.)
    • Footnote navigation for help and support tutorials.
  • Generic learning pathway structure. Each learning pathway will include:
    • Overview and aims (using the boilerplate template for consistency)
    • Video signpost (intended as stimulus for the section)
    • Individual pages directing study of the open text incorporating comment activities. Specific objectives / outcomes to be stated on individual pages. Some pages will include a resource bank activity or forum activity.
    • One or more learning challenges where learners are required to post their journal entries on a blog.
  • Each micro-course will conclude with a MCQ quiz of 20 to 25 items.

Workload

  • Full micro course: 30 hours
  • Learning time: 24 hours (Including e-tivities). Target 2 learning pathways per week for 3 weeks. About 4 hours for each pathway.
  • Summative assessment 6 hours
