Overview

Introduction

The availability of data from tracking technologies in professional sports is yielding substantial opportunities to engage in performance monitoring and analysis.

One example is the study of goal scoring in professional association football with a metric called Expected Goals abbreviated to xG in discussions about it[1]. Alex Rathke[2] has provided a review of some of the discussions that have taken place in blog posts or other social media platforms such as Twitter. Keith Lyons has aggregated a bibliography about xG that provides additional references and links to the literature.
