Introduction
Histology is usually studied under the microscope. This means that one can work with tissue pieces small enough that permit the light to pass through them. Tissues are generally transparent, and thus the only way to see them under the microscope is either by taking advantage of some of light's physical properties (such as diffraction) or by staining the tissue with specific dyes.
