Group 3 -Linkages to National, Regional and International Development Agenda
The Project is envisaged to improve the livelihoods of the small-scale farmers in ESA through improved access to food and income. At continental level, this project is in support of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) aspirations. Thrust 4 of CAADP in part advocates for increasing food supply and reducing hunger. CAADP also targets enhancing agricultural research, technology dissemination and adoption. At global level, these outputs are in line with a number of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They will lead to increased access to food, reduction in hunger and reduce poverty. These are in line with MDG 1. There will also be an improvement in nutrition which will reduce child mortality and maternal health, hence contributing to MDG 4 and 5, respectively. Increased productivity of cocoyam will also impact positively on environmental conservation as less marginal lands will be put under crop production in line with MDG 7.
