Global Issues/About
Global Issues: Concepts and Challenges
There are a multitude of global issues facing the world today. These are issues whose sources, impacts and solutions are not confined to a single country, but reverberate globally. In this course, students will examine some of the most pressing and important global challenges, and build their analytic skills to gain a deeper understanding of them. Students will gain the conceptual and theoretical tools to critically analyse a range of global issues. They will explore the place of rights and ethics in international relations. These conceptual tools will then be utilised to critically examine a number of case studies, including poverty and inequality, climate change, refugees and mass atrocity prevention. Students will be challenged to apply knowledge to practical use in ways that address concerns that cannot be addressed by governments or institutions acting alone.
