European History

European History could stretch as far back as 1789 however for this particular lesson,we are going to look at the period between 1789-1970.There are so many interesting areas and these include the world wars, the period of totaliran rule in Italy and Germany,Napoleon,the Metternich age etc.However its important to know that this period begins with the French revolution and could stretch as far as the out break of the cold war. So our first topic is the French revolution of 1789.

  • Learners should be able to mention the different countries in Europe.
  • Learners should be able to mention the super powers in Europe by 1789.
  • Learners should be able to discuss the various causes of the 1789 French revolution



The revolution of 1789 brought about a fundamental change in France and Europe as a whole. The change was of great social,political and economic significance to both France and Europe as a whole. Its important for Learners studying European history to appreciate the fact that the conditions in France and Europe were the same but the revolution occurred in france in 1789.

It is therefor important for us to have a clear understading of the unique features in France by 1789 that provided a fertile ground for the out break of the revolution there.
