What does it take to make a champion athlete?

Physiological advantage, peak fitness, inherent ability, high quality training, good nutrition and effective coaching are obvious components. But what about the role of psychological processes that impact on performance?

As an introduction to this course, watch this Ted Talk by Professor Martin Hagger of Curtin University. The running time is about 12 minutes.

From Martin’s talk, you can see how psychological factors can often be the difference between success and failure for an elite athlete. He also provides examples of how psychological interventions and strategies can increase the probability of a peak performance.
