Objective

Unit Standard 18212 V2, Level 3, Credit 8 - Demonstrate knowledge of New Zealand as a tourist destination

Element 2 PC2.1,2.2,2.3 Identify and describe attractions, activities and events in New Zealand

Element 3 PC3.1,3.2 Identify and describe air transport and related services available to tourists travelling within New Zealand

Element 4 PC4.2,4.3,4.5,4.6,4.7 Identify and describe ground product and related services available to tourists in New Zealand

Assessment Activity

Complete project supplying information on travel within New Zealand. Due Date: Wednesday 25 March 1300(please put in mailbox in hallway). Your work is to be word processed and spiral bound.

You must complete all three options requested.

Task

Itinerary - Option One

Scott Stewart, who is attending the wine conference, is researching information for his extended New Zealand holiday and has requested you supply him with the following details for his travel as a F.I.T.


1. Napier to Wellington travel by rental car (PC4.5)

Provide the following details for two companies (Avis and Thrifty] a) Address of Napier depot b) Cost of 2 day rental hire c) Rental inclusions d) Insurance details e) Loyalty programme f) GPS system availability


2. Wellington accommodation (PC4.7)

Provide the following details for a youth hostel and a back-packers

a) Name and address of property b) Category of tourist he will meet at the property c) Two services and two facilities available d) Quality grading and price range for single room e) Chain or franchise affiliation


3. Wellington attractions and activities (PC2.1, 2.2)

a) He is interested in visiting New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa and the Maritime Museum. Provide details including location, visiting times, cost and what he will see at each museum. Also recommend two activities on Wellington harbour advising details of the type of activity, cost, duration, and departure point


4. Wellington to Christchurch travel by air

a) Provide details of two options, shuttle and taxi, for his travel from Wellington city to the airport including name of company and cost. (PC3.2) b) Provide details of two different airlines for his travel including name of carrier including three letter city coding and duration of flight. (PC3.1) c) Provide details of two options, shuttle and taxi, for his travel from Christchurch city to the airport including name of company and cost.(PC3.2)


5. Christchurch accommodation (PC4.7)

Provide the following details for a B & B and a motel

a) Name and address of property b) Category of tourist he will meet at the property c) Two services and two facilities available d) Quality grading and price range for single room e) Chain or franchise affiliation


6. Christchurch attractions and activities (PC2.1, 2.2)

a) He is interested in visiting the International Antarctic Centre, Ferrymead Historical Park and the National Marae in Christchurch. Provide details including location, visiting times, cost and what he will see at each attraction. b) Also recommend an activity on the Avon River advising details of the type of activity, cost, duration, and departure point.


7. Christchurch to Queenstown travel by air or coach

a) Provide details of two airlines including the cities letter codes and flight duration. (PC3.1) b) Provide details of two coach operators including their on board facilities and details including costs and duration of their travel passes. (PC4.2)


8. Queenstown attractions and activities (PC2.1, 2.2)

a) He has had a recommendation from friends that he must travel on the Skyline Gondola and try out The Luge. Provide details of this attraction and activity including costs, how to access and what there is to see and do. b) He would like to experience the highest bungy jump before leaving New Zealand. Advise where he can do this, what company provides this activity and at what cost. c) The other activity he would like details on is a tandem aerial parapente jump.


9. Queenstown to Auckland travel by air (PC3.1)

a) Provide details of two airlines including the cities three letter codes and flight duration.


10. Auckland accommodation (PC4.7)

Provide the following details for an airport hotel and an apartment

a) Name and address of property b) Category of tourist he will meet at the property c) Two services and two facilities available d) Quality grading and price range for single room e) Chain or franchise affiliation


11. Events (PC2.3)

Tourists travel to places in New Zealand to attend special events.

a) Please identify and describe four sporting events (Two in the North Island, two in the South Island) that your client could attend during his stay or on future visits and six other types of events (three in the South Island and three in the North Island) e.g. cultural, arts, music, exhibitions, food and wine festivals, art deco festival and Christmas celebrations. b) Describe the event and when and where you would have to travel to attend.



Itinerary - Option Two – (PC4.6)

Research two New Zealand coach tour operators that could provide a 14 day tour including Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Auckland for Mr Stewart. You must include details of the tour company, name and duration of tour, the itinerary, costing and any inclusions e.g. meals and facilities and/or services provided on the coach e.g. on board toilet, tour commentary, air conditioning.



Itinerary - Option Three – (PC4.3)

Mr Stewart also has an interest in train travel but has heard we have limited routes available for travel in New Zealand. Provide details of the train routes and on board facilities and any travel passes he could purchase should he decide to take up this option.
