I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream.

—Martin Luther King Jr.

On August 28, 1963, the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. [1]. This historic speech helped to inspire and motivate the Civil Rights Movement, and highlighted the challenges of the vulnerable and oppressed to a larger audience, both national and international. This speech is recognised as one of the most effective persuasive speeches in history, in part because of Dr. King’s powerful use of metaphor and imagery.
