Readings

Read Section 12.2: Strategies for success, in Saylor Academy (Ed.) 2012. Business Communication for Success. (See page(s) 468 - 475 in PDF version.)

This reading focuses on different strategies used to appeal to your audience, and describes the nine cognate strategies used to create effective appeals in persuasive message design. The cognate strategies are: clarity, conciseness, tone, emphasis, arrangement, credibility, expectation, reference, and engagement.

You may find Table 12.2: How I Will Apply the Cognate Strategies useful as you begin to prepare an oral presentation.

Public Speaking Strategies

Do a web search for advice about public speaking. Keep a note of any that you find particularly helpful (you may like to add your notes and/or resources to your learning journal).

What similarities do you notice in public speaking strategies suggested by different resources? Which of the methods do you find most helpful, and why?

Please post your responses in the course topic discussion forum.
