THE PREPARATION OF OXYGEN FROM HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND POTASSIUM IODIDE
Chemicals:
- 1.5 L of 6% hydrogen peroxide. Dilute 260 mL of 35% hydrogen peroxide to a total of 1500 mL. Divide into 6 bottles labeled “6% hydrogen peroxide”.
- Beaker containing about 20 g of potassium iodide (labeled “potassium iodide”)
- Oxygen tank
- Concentrated ammonia
Equipment:
- 12 — 250 mL filtration flasks
- 14 — 600 mL beakers
- 14 — ring stands
- 12 — test tube clamps
- 12 — large test tubes (25 x 250 mm)
- 0.01 g electronic balance
- 12 — 50-60 cm pieces of rubber tubing to fit side arm of filtration flask
- 12 — rubber stoppers to fit top of filtration flasks
- 12 – bunsen burners
- 12 — flint strikers
- 12 — wooden splints
- 2 — large rings
- 2 — 500 mL florence flasks
- 2 — 2-hole rubber stoppers to fit florence flasks
- 2 — medium dropping pipettes
- 2 — 35 cm lengths of glass tubing to fit 2-hole stoppers
