Movie Review :
Jane Eyre
The setup of the story is in 19th century England where- the places like moors and Thornfield Hall are beautifully portrayed. janes character is very well written as she is strong, and a tough one for sure since she was a little child. she did not give up when things got hard throughout her life, she is a clever one. her character is shown as someone who is strong and does not let things make her sad for too long. she was an astonishing character to watch. She from the very beginning reflected unique personal characteristics which were a rare occurrence provided the era she belonged where women's opinion was seen as a drop in the ocean. She appeared brave enough to speak her mind and her ideas without shying of. She was righteous enough to raise her voice when met with distressing setting, especially when she found out the truth hidden by her soon to be husband. She has repeatedly portrayed characteristic which were to be admired. She was not only a soul which will stand again wrong but also act when necessary, keeping the best interest for herself. We saw her individualist choices which were admirable as she did not let other people dictate her life. whereas Mr. Rochester’s character is self-centered, sarcastic, has superiority complex as he likes to order people around of him. But we can see as she tells to Mr. Rochester that she cannot control her emotions anymore for him. This is an instance. the most important thing about the movie is the story btw jane and Mr. Rochester. they are drawn towards each other and are in deep love with each other. the sarcastic comments of Mr. Rochester and clever replies of jane compels viewer’s interest. The support cast has also done a great job like the characters of Mrs. Fairfax, or her childhood friend Helen burns add depth to the narrative. they help and show how nice she is through her choices made for friendship. the pace of the movie is well balanced throughout. it is easy for the viewers to keep a track of the story without getting confused. overall jane Eyre is a very simple and touching movie. it is a very good choice for the old-fashioned love stories. the movie is an emotional ride as it takes you to the ups and downs that takes places in main protagonist jane Eyre’s life. this movie teaches us to stay strong even when the life gets hard. For the conclusion part the film successfully captures the essence of the novel. Be it be the scenery in the movie, the character play, the story telling etc. While writing this review a questioned struck my mind that if jane Eyre were to live in 21st century would her life’s choices would align with today’s society? Indeed, yes as she was a strong individual opinionated and knew what was right for her. She was able to express herself in a righteous manner and was able to take a stand for herself when she was wronged. Her character is an inspiration for many women, who are constantly being put down, who are constantly depressed by societal pressure and circumstances.
Secondly what I found intriguing was the character development by Mr. Rochester as he was a self-important, sarcastic, controlling individual who focused more on the outer appearance rather than inner energy and he was surprised when he asked jane to examine him and I quote – “miss Eyre examine me, you find me handsome.” And she replied ‘no’ sir. He appeared a little baffled and asked her few questions. His appearance changed, a face that he cherished for years changed in a way that he never imagined and lastly his conversation with jane made him realized the power of impact on inner self.
