Readers use a variety of reading strategies to assist with decoding (to translate symbols into sounds or visual representations of language), and comprehension.
Reading is considered a vital part of the learning process as it builds knowledge. An individual who reads can participate in discussions and share information with others. Those that do not engage in reading are limited to information that is nessary to develop higher order thinking skills.
