As of February 2023, Kenyans report that it has not rained in years and their rivers have dried up.
When there is no water, it is the women who suffer the most.
Fights at the waterpoint occur due to the lack of water; there is water stress everywhere.
The Water Justice Fund was created by Simavi and Women Win; it is a fund that invests directly in local and practical solutions initiated by local communities at the forefront of climate action to help them address water problems and to put women in the lead.
Women are able to access the fund while the organisation monitors money utilisation and assesses impact.
The aim is to empower women to help them manage, control, facilitate or implement water activities within their localities.
This project will help women adapt to the vulnerabilities they are facing.
The Water Justice Fund is piloted in Kenya, Bangladesh and Nepal and is committed to building the political power, voice and agency of women worldwide.
90% of the global climate issues are water-related, so we need water justice now.
