  • Kopoti Ghagra is the head teacher of Nolchapra High School in Kalmakanda, Netrokona, Bangladesh, who won the Joyeeta Awards in February 2022 at both district and division levels.
  • When Kopoti was in the sixth grade, her parents separated and she observed her mom become mentally unstable, so she grew up without a proper guardian.
  • When her father left, she was determined to establish herself as a reputable member of society.
  • She offered tutorial services at a nearby primary school in exchange for money that would fund her own studies.
  • After graduation, she wanted to teach at the secondary school level and eventually got the job.
  • The goal is that women will break all the biases and structural barriers of society and equally contribute to different sectors, such as education and employment, since the Indigenous communities and ethnic minorities are among the most marginalised intersectional communities.
