Rosh Hashana

Rosh Hashana is the Jewish new year. My family isn't really all that religious so we don't celebrate the holidays to the extent that many others do. We go to dinner at the homes of our extended family which is nice because I get to see a lot of people whom I don't get to see often since they live far away. We dip apples in honey to symbolize a sweet year and enjoy the many dishes that the dinner is comprised of.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur is the jewish day of judgement by god. According to my parents, it's the most important holiday in Judaism. On the years when my family is more diciplined, we go for the service at the synagogue and we fast for one day. Unfortunatly, most years we don't even attempt to fast and just enjoy the day off from school. Since this is our first year in Israel, we didn't drive on Yom Kippur out of respect for all people who observe it more strictly, but in California, there are hardly any religious Jews so we drove anyways.

Sukkot

Sukkot is a seven day holiday in which you build a sukkah. A sukkah is like a little hut with palm leaves for a roof. It is meant to symbolize the huts the Israelites had to build during the forty years when travelling out of Egypt and into Israel Most years my dad builds a sukkah and we dine in it on the nights when we stay home. On the first and last night though, we usually go visit family or close friends and have dinner in their sukkah.

Letter

To whom it may concern:

I would like to apply for your waitressing position. My most recent job was working as a couselor with children at a day camp. Although I realize that the job in question is nothing like my previous experience, I know that I will be an excelent waitress because I am very responsible and I know how to follow orders. I will always arrive to work on time and ready to do my job. I am very friendly and personable, therefore, the customers would enjoy having me as their waitress and would be sure to come back again on another occaision to dine again. Thank you for considering me for the position.

Sincerily, Adi Goldman
