A proposed differentiation and appellation
One way of seeing the difference between print-based and electronic-based distance education is to call one ‘classical’ distance education and the other ‘online’ distance education. In this way the ‘loose ends’ in understanding one type of distance education from another will be neatly tied. From thereon, classical distance education will refer to those distance learning environments that favour print-based media, which may include audiovisual, satellite, telephony and e-mail based transactions', but precludes an electronic educational platform. ‘Online’ distance education will refer to that type of educational transaction that is carried out on an electronic platform that favors student-student, student-content, student-tutor interactions and carries all resources that will support the learner’s educational itinerary.
