Overview of the second learning pathway We begin our examination of the history of the Asia-Pacific region. You are free to look at the history of the whole region in a general fashion, or you can focus on specific regional or state histories. Your preliminary reading on these topics will lead you to areas of interest that you can focus on. By studying the history of the region we will be better able to understand the contemporary region as we progress through the latter weeks of the course. Objectives On successful completion of this section, you will be able to: identify historically significant events in Asia and the Pacific, provide a timeline overview of one of the civilisations located in the Asia-Pacific region, noting the relevant events/ issues of importance to that civilisation.
