Sheila Drew
Sheila Drew is a Programme Specialist – Early Childhood Development (ECD) with Saide. Saide’s mission is to enable successful open learning for all, using distance educational strategies, appropriate technologies and open educational resources (OER). Saide acts as an advocate, catalyst, and facilitator to bring about change in educational practices, facilitating networks and providing advice on the implementation of distance education and the evaluation, development and sharing of courses and materials.

Sheila has worked with a number of education organisations and institutions in the areas of evaluation, programme and curriculum design, materials design and development, and open educational resources within South Africa, as well as in Lesotho, Mozambique, Ghana, Namibia, Zambia and Malawi. Sheila has many years of experience in learning design for face to face, blended and online learning contexts, to promote access and success. Sheila has managed a number of large ECD programme and materials design and development projects. Sheila is passionate about collaborative partnerships in teaching and learning.

Sheila has been one of the South African in-country co-ordinators for the African Storybook, a Saide initiative which aims to increase access to and the use of children’s stories in local languages in Africa.

Sheila holds a BA (Wits), a BEd Hons in adult education (Wits), and a Montessori Diploma (St. Nicholas, London).

Sheila's creative approach to education extends to singing in the Johannesburg Symphony Choir. Her favourite pastime is enjoying a glass of wine listening to the sounds of the African bush.
