Some of Extension Activities Using the Women with Wings Video and Study Guide


3rd Grade

  • Have individuals or pairs select one of the women from the video and using the study guide:
    Make a list of birthday presents she might like. They should be prepared to give reasons for their gift selections.
  • Draw a picture or write a poem or a thank you note to her about her accomplishment(s).
  • Play a bingo-type grid game with the names. See the reverse for suggestions.


4th Grade

  • Have individuals or pairs select one of the women from the video and using the study guide :
    Imagine that she was coming to visit the school for a week. Have them make a list of nearby places she could be taken to have fun, to eat and to learn about life today. They should be prepared to give reasons for their selections.
  • Make a VENN diagram to show personality traits or experiences they have in common. Have students share and compare their diagrams. They should be prepared to give reasons for their selections.
  • Play a bingo-type grid game with the names. See the reverse for suggestions.


5th Grade

  • Have individuals or pairs select one of the women from the video and using the study guide:
    Have individuals make a list of questions s(he) would like to ask if the woman were to come and speak to the class. Then have students exchange questions with others and use the web to try to find the answers.
  • Make a list of people from the present (famous folks, family, school and community leaders) and people from the past who could be invited to a party to be held in her honor. Each guest should have some connection to the woman's characteristics, interests or accomplishments. Students should be prepared to give reasons for their selections. As a class, put together a guest list of the 10 best.
  • Play a bingo-type grid game with the names. See the reverse for suggestions.
