What will I learn?

You will gain a knowledge and understanding of pre- and post-invasion Indigenous Australian cultures, including the continuity and change between past and present culture; the impact of historical policies and practices upon Indigenous communities and families; issues which are of concern to contemporary Indigenous Australians including the international human rights framework, health, education, employment, land, and criminal justice.

  • Education & employment
  • Aboriginal people & the Criminal Justice System
  • Native Title & heritage protection

By completing this course you will be able to;

  • apply knowledge of Australia's obligations under the United Nations human rights framework for the protection of Indigenous Australian Human Rights;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the diversity of Indigenous Australian cultures both past and present;
  • critically analyse post-colonisation policies and practices and their impact on Indigenous communities and families;
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of contemporary issues which impact upon Indigenous peoples and communities;
  • Investigate Indigenous community protocols and strategies to work effectively with Indigenous people and communities.
