Design for learning in open education
Activity
Survey the following open courses to observe and compare how aspects of design for learning (sequence/sampling, support, tool and resource curation, learner pathways, demonstration of learning outcomes, credit options, and potential reuse) have been approached:
- The Open University's Open Education
- The UK Association for Learning Technology's (ALT) Open Course in Technology Enhanced Learning (ocTEL)
- The Open Educational Resources University's (OERu) Open Content Licensing for Educators (OCL4Ed)
Reading
The following readings will provide valuable background for Task 1: Curation and peer feedback. Read the short paper Engaging higher education students via digital curation (pdf) (Antonio, Martin & Stagg, 2012) for an overview of curation and curation tools.
For further practical guidance and accounts of curation in learning and teaching, read Digital curation: Opportunities for learning, teaching, research and professional development (pdf) (Flintoff, Mellow & Clark, 2014).
Discussion
In a message on our Wiggio group site, briefly outline how you would approach design for learning to support open educational practices (OEP), giving emphasis to curation, OER integration and co-creation activities with learners. If starting this discussion, please use a subject line identifying the topic e.g. 'My approach to design for learning for OEP'. Others can then reply under this thread.
