DIFFERENT MEANS OF TRANSPORT

The movement of goods from one place to another is called transport. Transport removes the hindrances of persons, place and time in exchange of goods and commodities. Effective transport plays an important role in the economic progress of the country.

The various modes of transport can be classified into three main divisions:

   Land Transport
   Water Transport
   Air Transport

Land Transport

The chief forms of land transport are: Roadways Transport,Tramways Transport Railways Transport: The railway has been the pioneer of modern mechanical transport. The first Indian railway train rolled on its 34 km track from Bombay to Thana on April 16, 1853.It carries about 70 to 80 percent of our total traffic of goods and people. Water Transport :Water transport is the cheapest and the oldest mode of transport. It has the largest carrying capacity and is most suitable for carrying bulky goods over long distances. Air Transport:Air transport is the most recent mode of transport. It is the gift of the 20th century to the world. It is the fastest mode of transport. But the cost of its operation is very high. The most dominant modes of transport are aviation, land transport, which includes rail, road and off-road transport, and ship transport. Other modes also exist, including pipelines, cable transport, and space transport. Human-powered transport and animal-powered transport are sometimes regarded as their own mode, but these normally also fall into the other categories Land TRANSPORT--RAIL-- is a means of conveyance of passengers and goods by way of wheeled vehicles running on rail track, known as a railway or railroad.

WHEELS IN DIFFERENT TRANSPORT

Different transports have different number of wheels that help the particular transport to move. Such as : Transports having two wheels are bicycle, scooter.

          Transports having three wheels are cycle rickshaw,auto rickshaw.
          Transports having four wheels are car, bus, jeep, taxi, van
          Transports having more than four wheels are train and aeroplane
          Transports having no wheels are boat, ship, yatch, steamer.
         

FUELS IN DIFFERENT TRANSPORT

Fuels help the transport to move. Different types of fuels are petrol, diesel and CNG (COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS ) Petrol and diesel are polluting fuel whereas CNG is non-polluting fuel.
