By way of introduction, my name is SHABAJEE Ravindra Kumar. I work as a Course Coordinator in a State Owned Enterprise, called the Industrial and Vocational Training Board ( IVTB ).IVTB Home Page

Brief on my Training Institution

IVTB is one of the leading training organisation in Mauritius. It runs eleven Training Centres across the Island including one in Rodrigues Island.

I am currently working in a Training Centre which is known as the School of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications ( SITEC ). Our School consists of four training units as follows :

Automation Training Unit

Electronics Training Unit

Information Technology Unit

Telecom Training Unit

I am the Course Coordinator of the Automation Unit where I am responsible for looking after the overall training activities of the unit where I have a total of six staff under my responsibility. We enrol students who have completed their Higher School Certificate on a training program leading to a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Instrumentation & Control Engineering.

This training program is accredited and awarded by BTEC-Edexcel , London UK. We started our first cohort of full time training in September 1998. Since it is very difficult to have links with Foreign Universities where they run similar courses, I am very much interested in developing e-learning materials or OERs that would help promote the benefits of the Engineering courses especially when it is related to Technical Vocational Education & Training.

Objective of joining the Wiki Educator Project

I am currently enrolled on a part time course at the University of Mauritius University of Mauritius leading to a MSc- Educational Technologies. This course is delivered by a newly set up branch at the University of Mauritius , which is called the Virtual Centre for Innovative Learning also referred to as the VCILT.Virtual Centre for Innovative Learning Technologies (VCILT).

I am thankful to our Lecturer Mrs Sandhya Gunness - Mrs Sandhya Wiki Link , who has requested us to join the Wiki Educator project as part of the module based on Social Networking. This module does in effect provide the opportunity for us to really network with people amongst the group of students following the course as well as linking with people on the net.
