Milton Friedman wrote in 1970 in the New York Times « The Social Responsability of Business is to increase its Profits ». In this article, he defends the position that the principle objective of a company is to optimize its profits and therefore to return to the shareholders their investment, while respecting the laws of the country in which it operates".

Today few CEO's of comapnies will dare to make this statement. At the contrary they like to portray themselves as social investors and philantropics. While all would actors agree to a certain extent that companies have some responsibility for the social well-being of their stakeholders, they are far from a consensus about how to operationalize this responsibility. Ho to make the step from an idea(l) to an implementable policy?
