National Goal 2

Increase the understanding of the contribution that ICTs can make to effective learning across the regional cluster.

Cluster Goal:

School leadership is actively involved in realising the vision of SCD

At least two, full day, 'leadership events' for principals and senior leaders in schools. These will raise the profile of SCD in the schools and offer a challenge to leaders to further support the SCD vision. Note, non-cluster schools within the region will be invited to these events.

There is also the possibility of invited speakers from UC being available to present at leadership events.

School leadership will fund their own relief and transport

Effective delivery

  • Attendance by non-cluster school principals takes place
  • online survey of principals after the events
  • Feedback from CoPs and core group of teachers shows that schools leadership is actively supporting the SCD vision

National Goal 3

Strengthen professional learning communities and increase collaboration across the regional cluster of schools.

Cluster Goal

Sustainable communities of practice have been developed from which the region can build leadership of blended learning

  • Core teacher group community of practice continues to be strengthened
  • Core teacher group’s community of practice leads the adoption of blended approaches to learning within the region’s schools
  • Further communities of practice will be developed around sharing, collaboration and blended learning
  • #School leadership groups across the region are connected for the purpose of discussion on the key outcomes of the project

Please see activities outlined in goals one and two, which will also serve to further strengthen the community of practice and connect school leadership

Also, the teacher group will continue to share, discuss and collaborate using its online space on Educo. This will be built around key focus areas for the next steps in the project. Much of this will be developed through the use of ongoing professional discussion using forums and through the development and sharing of teacher ePortfolios.

PD for existing and emerging Communities of Practice (CoP's)

SCD will fund CoP's to meet, develop and produce materials to enable the vision of the SCD to be realised across a wide group of schools and participating teachers.

  • SCD will fund a maximum of nine CoP's the sum of $3000 to be used for relief purposes
  • Schools will contribute an equal amount to this project on a user pays basis
  • SCD will develop criteria to ensure the CoP's are able to meet the vision of the SCD
  • CoP's will have to submit expressions of interest for the PD money by means of a short application

Resources and Budget

Access to online spaces using Moodle or other web 2.0 tools which are freely available for schools to use

Educo and Mahara are provided by the VLN

Note the funding for this is 1:1 cluster to school funding. For every dollar that the cluster contributes, participating schools will contribute a dollar.

$3000 x 9 =

$27000 for development of COPs

Effective delivery

  • Ongoing surveying of teachers for the purpose of gaining feedback on the effectiveness of the planned activities
  • Monitoring of participation in each community’s online space and in the forum discussion in particular
