National Goal 1

Increase the e-learning leadership and ICT capability of regional cluster schools.


Your programme Goals


Cluster Goal:


Cadre of eLearning Leaders continues to develop their eLearning capability:


  • Blended learning programmes of study are constructed that enable personalised learning
  • Core group of eLearning Leaders continues to develop a CoP

Activities


2 X day meetings (Term 1 and Term 4, total 4 days), focus to be determined by the cadre, but likely to include, leadership, ePortfolios, blended learning pedagogy


4 days PD during the year – to be arranged by individual teachers - with agreement of facilitators


Attendance at Ulearn 2011 for 10 members of core group

Resources and Budget


288 facilitator days provided by school contributions


relief (4 days), accommodation & transport for 20 teachers: $84710 (rates are relief $261 pd, accommodation $145 pd, travel $460 pp)

Effective delivery

  • Particpants are surveyed after each PD event.
  • Blended, personalised courses are produced by participants
  • Collaboration takes place between teachers
  • Some of the CORE group present at ULEARN 2011
  • Some of the core group present to principals as part of the leadership events (goal 2)



National Goal 2


Increase the understanding of the contribution that ICTs can make to effective learning across the regional cluster.


Cluster Goal:


School leadership is actively involved in realising the vision of SCD

Activities


At least two, full day, 'leadership events' for principals and senior leaders in schools. These will raise the profile of SCD in the schools and offer a challenge to leaders to further support the SCD vision. Note, non-cluster schools within the region will be invited to these events.


There is also the possibility of invited speakers from UC being available to present at leadership events.


Resources and Budget


Keynote speaker $1000 pd, travel for keynote plus 6 'star teachers' $1500, relief for 6 teachers $ 1740, venue $600. Total for 2 events $9680


School leadership will fund their own relief and transport

Effective delivery


  • Attendance by non-cluster school principals takes place
  • online survey of principals after the events
  • Feedback from CoPs and core group of teachers shows that schools leadership is actively supporting the SCD vision

National Goal 3

Strengthen professional learning communities and increase collaboration across the regional cluster of schools.


Cluster Goal

Sustainable communities of practice have been developed from which the region can build leadership of blended learning


  • Core teacher group community of practice continues to be strengthened
  • Core teacher group’s community of practice leads the adoption of blended approaches to learning within the region’s schools
  • Further communities of practice will be developed around sharing, collaboration and blended learning
  • #School leadership groups across the region are connected for the purpose of discussion on the key outcomes of the project




Activities


Please see activities outlined in goals one and two, which will also serve to further strengthen the community of practice and connect school leadership

Also, the teacher group will continue to share, discuss and collaborate using its online space on Educo. This will be built around key focus areas for the next steps in the project. Much of this will be developed through the use of ongoing professional discussion using forums and through the development and sharing of teacher ePortfolios.

PD for existing and emerging Communities of Practice (CoP's)

SCD will fund CoP's to meet, develop and produce materials to enable the vision of the SCD to be realised across a wide group of schools and participating teachers.


  • SCD will fund a maximum of nine CoP's the sum of $3000 to be used for relief purposes
  • Schools will contribute an equal amount to this project on a user pays basis
  • SCD will develop criteria to ensure the CoP's are able to meet the vision of the SCD
  • CoP's will have to submit expressions of interest for the PD money by means of a short application

Access to online spaces using Moodle or other web 2.0 tools which are freely available for schools to use


Educo and Mahara are provided by the VLN






















Note the funding for this is 1:1 cluster to school funding. For every dollar that the cluster contributes, participating schools will contribute a dollar.

Effective delivery

  • Ongoing surveying of teachers for the purpose of gaining feedback on the effectiveness of the planned activities
  • Monitoring of participation in each community’s online space and in the forum discussion in particular
  • Monitor teacher’s development of ePortfolio area and the ongoing reflection that takes place
  • Survey and interview school leadership for the effectiveness of leadership events, especially on whether any sense of regional community has developed



National Goal 4

Foster new and existing relationships with Government, Local Government, Businesses and members of the community that will strengthen the cluster.


Cluster Goal:

Foster new and existing relationships within the region’s community


  • Cluster leadership events will foster a greater sense of school ownership of the project
  • School leaders will have a greater sense of being a rural regional community centred on making the most of online learning (whether blended or fully online)
  • Local communities and local community leaders will be more aware of the regional focus on personalised learning using the web
  • Develop connections with the GCSN



Activities


While no University course will be offered in 2011, the partnership with the eLearning department and Professor Niki Davis, will continue to remain an important aspect of building capacity


Local body government will be invited to regional cluster leadership events


Local community media will be invited to regional cluster events and project leaders will publicise the progress of the regional cluster through local media



Project leaders (including governance) will regularly meet with GCSN leadership in order to support common goals

Effective delivery

  • Active participation in leadership events from school and local community leaders
  • School leaders more actively adopt blended models on learning within their school
  • Ongoing dialogue on the progress of the regional cluster between schools and their local community
  • Ongoing dialogue between the GCSN and the SCD regional cluster


National Goal 5*

Develop the capability of the sector by sharing online professional reflections to inform colleagues of the challenges and opportunities afforded by e-learning


Cluster Goal:

Ongoing professional reflection on the progress of the SCD regional cluster informs the wider community on the challenges and opportunities of blended learning


  • All school leaders are regularly informed of the progress of the cluster
  • The wider community has online access to the progress of the cluster
  • Teachers have developed rich portfolio areas that provides personal reflections on the project



Activities


All progress reporting for the regional cluster will be outlined on an ongoing basis through the SCD portal on WikiEducator. This will be updated regularly, rather than seen as a one off articles


Project leadership blog will provide ongoing insights into the progress of the cluster


Regular face to face and online meetings of project leadership to plan reflection


Cluster personnel to present and share their progress at Ulearn
