The template provides the wiki tools and pedagogical icons (iDevice Templates) for authors to write the content. Additional support resources include:

iDevices and template format - additional proposals

Solution iDevice

- I wanted a device to be able to describe the solution of an activity. I created a new template and here it is in use;

External Activities

Purpose: The purpose of this iDevice is to guide the user to perform some tasks outside the learning process that are not directly related to the immediate learning activities, but would greatly enhance the outcome.

Situation: The examples situation at hand is that the current installation of Openoffice 2 does not have a Clip Art gallery. I need to download them from for me to demonstrate how to use them at the same time post some information to the user on how to download and install the gallery. There might be other situations where the learners might be required to go beyond the software they are learning(or the content at hand) to do something that enhances the learning or at least adds some value.

Instructional design templates

  • Module level CCNC Template
    • This is an overview of the module with links to the module sections. For example, Module 2 - Using the computer and managing files. The sections are listed. For example, a section in Module 2 is 2.1 Computer environment.

    • This template provides an overview of the section with sub-section outcomes and links to sub-sections. For example, Section 2.1 Computer Environment has links to and outcomes for sub-sections 2.1.1 First steps with the computer and 2.1.2 Basic information and operations and so on.

  • Sub-section level CCNC Template
    • This template provides the content and activities for the sub-section. Note that within these subsections, each learning activity may have a separate page which the user pages through with a menu and/or next and back arrows. For example, in sub-section 2.1.1 First steps with the computer the learner will go through detailed step-by-step instructions, followed by suggested activities, a flash move, and a self-assessment.

Design stages - from 'content' to interactive eLearning packages

WikiEducator provides a platform for us to bring together content. By capturing the content in this way we provide the basis for future development of educational materials in a range of formats. This is why you will see that the content itself is designed to be quite 'modular', i.e. the 'activities' are separated from the 'instructions'. Your design approach should be therefore very modular.

The first design stage for this project is to ensure we have up-to-date content for re-use, and to script that into the WikiEducator Design templates.

The second design stage of the project is to consider how the content will be 're-designed' to create some eLearning 'Interactive' activities. These activities will be designed and built in eXe (.elp files).

The third design stage is to 'package' up the content and the activities into formats for distribution. This means, for example, we might have a series of paper-based (pdf) published modules from the WikiEducator pages, and we also have eLearning objects(eXe - published as IMS/SCORM) modules). The eLearning modules would be web-based and distributed online or on a CD-ROM.
