Overview

This Edubit requires you to create and submit a project charter. There are five tasks based on the learning challenges. The outputs of each challenge constitute the component parts of assembling a project charter. If you participated in the OERu online course and completed these challenges, you may edit and improve your original answers before assembling the project charter.

Consult the assessment rubrics before preparing and after completing your submission to ensure that you have met the minimum requirements for achieving this Edubit.

Task 1: Candidate context

I can:

• Provide a brief description of my current role, why I am submitting this Edubit assessment and provide a summary of any prior work experience in project management or a related field.

This information is not assessed but is intended to provide context for the assessor.

I can:

• Conduct a stakeholder analysis for the three (3) most important stakeholders of an identified project

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

1. A project you have chosen for completing the assessment tasks. The project should ideally be able to be completed within a year, involve a minimum of three stakeholders and require inputs from two or more people to complete the project. Consult the “Your project” learning pathway for more information on choosing a project for this Edubit.
2. A paragraph with a brief description (four (4) to five (5) sentences) of the project you have selected.
3. An analysis of the three (3) stakeholders in the form of a table where for each stakeholder you identify. Describe:
   • What type of stakeholder they are
   • Where they are placed on a stakeholder map in terms of power and interest
   • How the relevant stakeholder might impact on the project
   • How the project might impact on each stakeholder.

By providing:

1. At least three (3) objectives for the identified project which are specific, measurable and time-bound.

• Write a scope statement for an identified project

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

1. A scope statement overview including the following subheadings
   • Project name
   • Project owner
   • Project sponsors
   • Project stakeholders
2. Project purpose or problem statement
3. Overall project goal and objectives
4. Project requirements
5. Project deliverables
6. Project non-goals (what is out of scope) - if applicable
7. Project constraints including:
   • At least three (3) significant milestones described on a timeline
   • Cost estimates.

I can:

• Combine the outputs of the stakeholder analysis, project objectives and scope statement to write a project charter for an identified project.

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

1. A coherent project charter of a standard that can be used to run a project. The project charter must include the following elements:
   • Identification section (4 Marks)
   • Purpose and problem statement (5 Marks)
   • Objectives (5 Marks)
   • Scope (5 Marks)
   • Constraints (5 Marks)
   • Major milestones (5 Marks)
   • Preliminary cost estimates for the project (a detailed itemised budget is not required - just high level estimates of major expense categories and how costs were determined.) (5 Marks)
   • Project stakeholders (5 Marks)
   • Project charter acceptance (1 Mark)
2. A document presented in a professional business format of a standard that can be used to run a project.
   • Professional presentation and formatting (5 Marks)
   • Coherence of report (5 Marks)
