Dear Paulette, please keep in mind this is a self paced workshop, we will try to do our best to help you out during and after the workshop. Enjoy your lifelong learning journey... :-) --Gladys Gahona C. 23:28, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Can l still proceed with the remaining tutorials beyond Tutorial 10? They are really interesting.

After the class is over, if we have problems can we still contact you or the other tutors?

Thanks for the opportunity. I am seeing an open door through wiki as regards my career. I have alot of interest in Open Source related issues. Besides, l am a research student and there is no better place to submit my articles than here.

Just one question out of hidden concern? How do you benefit by being a tutor and especially now that the course is free? Is there someone who pays you? If someone pursued training people on how to use wikis, in what ways can he benefit?

I intend to venture into full time training as a consultancy in the near future and particularly in the field of e-learning. This training is really timely and a plus.

I hope l don't sound selfish.--Kimani Njoroge 04:45, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi

My user page could do with some tabulation for example the work history, is there a way of tabulating without using a table

The other silly little thing how do I generate from the keyboard the vertical line in the image tag for example.

--Gilesl 09:12, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello Giles, very good question. Tables are quite powerful, however they are a bit tricky when using wikicode. I have tested <div> tags in order to create blocks, however sometimes text do not get aligned properly, please see:

  • 2000 -
  • 1998 - 1999

Border color can be changed to "white". As you can see we might find some vertical alignement issues. However is a good start, we can do further tests :-)

The "pipe" symbol can be displayed by typing following code: &#124;

Here is the pipe: |

Please also check your keyboard, most of them have the "pipe" symbol somewhere in a key. Mine is just under "Esc" key.

I am working on a Help page named "Displaying Special Characters". Please visit the page, you can find codes for many special characters.

Cheers,

Hi Gladys - I was very thankful to follow a link from your page to the PhET simulations. What a useful resource. I like the user friendly simple DC circuit constructions. Ideal for my Y10 students next term. I am trying to figure out effective ways to use new technologies in the classtroom and see how we can exploit out computer facilities in New Zealand schools whilst sharing expertise with our colleagues worldwide. You seem to have some expertise in this field and your input would be most welcome. I really look forward to hearing from you --Robin 10:28, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Gladys,

So wonderful to see you yesterday. I quite enjoyed the WiZiQ workshop. It was my first time in any sort of live online session like that :-). I've learned so much since we first "met."

Just wanted to request that you stop by the Workgroup:WikiEducator Workgroups page to check out the progress that we've made. We've decided to create a charter so we can directly experience the process that we are suggesting for initiating a community-wide Workgroup.

While you are there, please add a brief statement of your relevant skills and experience (as related to the creation of the outcomes of this group) in the Workgroup participants list and note your preference as to communication method in the charter's communication section. And generally speaking all revisions, comments, contribution to ongong discussion are greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Looking forward to continued discussions.

Warm (yes, it's finally warm here) regards, Alison

Snow has been replaced by daffodils in my garden and Spring is firmly in the air. Thanks for your message. Cancun is sounding very appealing right now. Your math resources are growing rapidly and looking excelent. I think linked curricula between math and science would be good. Why waste valuable class time on just science, when the data could lead to a math exercise?

I agree Declan, math models pretend to emulate natural phenomenae, or more precisely, what science knows about nature. Maths are already present in your biology experiments, kids learn to measure, count, collect data, I see you have reserved room for math connections, so next natural step is analysing collected data in order to discover patterns; simplified math models can be developed which can be used to predict future events. Let's make kids think as scientists =). Love the idea, no doubts we should work on it.

So many ideas, so little time:)

  • Hi, Gladys. I am happy to see the link at the top to your Spanish User Page. Your page is rich with information and a source of much learning for me (The Wiki copy and paste method). I can think of only one recommendation (we do not have to be bad to get better) and that is please continue as you are doing.--Phil Bartle 06:04, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot Phil, I call "reverse engineering" to the method of copy&paste chunks of code I find interesting or useful for future personalization to my purposes, so the output is an improved code. Thanks to this powerful open source platform we can legally do this. WikiNeighbours whose pages have been "copied", must be proud for this, somebody else found something usefull in his/her code. This method has been particulary helpful to me for accelerating my process of learning the wiki-edition skills. Cheers. Gladys. --chela5808 15:05, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Question about removing media (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Hi Gladys,

Thanks for being a wikineighbour and leaving a message offering help.

How does one remove, alter or rename uploaded media ?

Realize one can simply remove the link to a picture, but it would then just clutter the server, and take up space unnecessarily ! Or will unused pages and media eventually be removed automatically or by the site admin ?

Best regards, Oliver --Lebreton 09:58, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

EL4C21

Hi there again, Found the answer of my question at [1]

Removing or deleting pages is attribution of system administrators. If you want a page (images, mp3 files, pdf files, etc. have their own pages) to be deleted:

  • Be sure you are the only editor
  • There is no other page linked to it
  • Switch to edit mode, write wiki-code: {{delete}} and save page.
  • Write a short explanation for your request. Please sign up your request.

That's it. Let administrators do the rest of the job. In doubt, they might contact you. You will see the deletion log in recent changes list, or when eventualy visit the page. You might want to contact Administrator Declan McCabe, he's been doing this job.

Cheers Gladys G. --chela5808 05:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello Gladys,

I just wanted to say I enjoy looking over your user page - I seem to always find something new that I can use in my own pages. It's kind of fun "digging" around someone's pages in search for new code.

By the way, I understand MEXTESOL will be in Cancun in 2010...I´m saving my pesos in hopes I can gather enough to make the long haul from Aguascalientes. Maybe I´ll see you there. This year I´m planning on going to the ANUPI conference in October. Let me know if you plan on going to either one of these conferences. It'd be great to meet you f2f. I look forward to a continuing collaboration.--Benjamin Stewart 02:36, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you find my page helpful. I really started adding stuff on my way to learn little more about all wiki-features, I love to share all info I have collected and experimented with. You are following the smartest and easiest way to learn wiki-skills: "reverse engineering", studying the code, then adapting & improving it for your own purposes =)

Hope the MEXTESOL Congress will be in Cancun by 2010. Even I am not an english teacher (I'm actually an english learner =), I will be very happy to shake your hand here in Cancun. Please keep me informed so we can organize something. Thanks for visiting my talk page. Gladys --chela5808 04:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Statistics Project (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Thanks for checking out my statistics project. I just rearranged things, so I'm glad that I've started it in my user subpages. I'm excited to be making progress, even if it's only in fits and starts (English idiom similar to two steps forward and one step back).

I'm so amazed at all that you do and your ability to connect with so many users (and all of it -- at least all the parts that I see -- in a second language!). Very inspiring!

Alison

Hi Alison,

I'm so glad you've started your project. The best way to begin is using subpages, you can create as many as you need. Thank you for using idioms (including explanations), I have so many to learn! I appreciate your comment, I'm also excited because I feel I'm making progress on my English. Today I was capable to give a 1/2 hr online presentation in English!!! I'm very sorry didn't send you an invitation; every friday Nellie organize a storytelling session on WizIQ. Please see: Storytelling Workshop.

Hope you can attend next online sessions. You will love them. Cheers

I was in the US (Wisconsin, Madison) for my masters in continuing education. But somehow I missed going to Mexico but I hope somemday I will be able to go there.

Kindest regards

Boolean Logic Resource (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Hi Gladys!

Hope you are having a good weekend.

I've written the Boolean logic and search engine resource we discussed. I couldn't think of an obvious place for it within any of your current projects listed on your Userpage, so I made it part of 2 other existing courses: unit 7 of ABE Math Tutorials and Lesson 9:Internet Search Engines in the Introduction to IT section of ICT. The section about basic Boolean logic is made up of new pages I created, and the section about Internet search engines was a page I found and tried to clean up a bit. Any thoughts or suggestions? --AFriedman 19:32, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Great!

Just contact your colleagues so you can make sure your lesson's aims are aligned with the projects' ones.

Go to ABE_Math_Tutorials and ICT. Click on "history" tabs. You'll find all the info about contributors and all versions of the pages.

I see ABE_Math_Tutorials has an open invitation to convert to wiki format from some specific resources ( here ) which returned an error message when I clicked on the link. I recommend you talk with Randy Fisher or Wayne Mackintosh regarding to the development of this resource.

Andrews Kofi Nyarkoh is the creator of ICT page, and Kakamora is also contributing.

Thanks for your advice. I've done this. Looking forward to seeing you. --AFriedman 16:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Gladis I would like to contribute towards Maths Glossary project. But I dont know how to use Mathematical tools while editing the pages. Will you pl. guide me. Thanks and regards

Hi Promila, Thanks for the message. The main Math tool we need is Latex, which is the required markup language for inserting o rendering math symbols.

Wayne Mackintosh told me about the posibility of schedulling a Latex Tutorial in WE. Meantime please:

1. Read complete the Math Glossary Main Page

2. Fill in your name at the bottom of the page in section Join the Project

3. Open a new window and click here: Displaying Special Characters. Study the page.

4. Check up the page Absolute Value to see your contribution now converted to math symbols. Switch to edit mode to study the codes.

5. Main codes for writing special and math symbols are: <math></math> which are automaticaly written for you by clicking the Image:Button math.png which is located in the menu bar on editing mode.

6. Look for more math symbols in math pages, switch to edit mode and study the codes.

7. Practice math notation in your sandbox. Please let me know so we can practice together.

Hope this can help Gladys --chela5808 03:39, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Gladys, Your page is great! I'll have to learn how you do some of the formatting you have used. CHeers, Dmccabe 01:39, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Declan,

Thanks a bunch for your wiki visit. One tag is the key: <div>, I started working on examples. Please see User:Chela5808/HTML_and_CSS_Lab.

The {{delete}} template is great. Simple and efficient.

Warm Greetings. Gladys Gahona--chela5808 03:01, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Would you please visit my user page and give me your comment and correct for if I have any language mistakes. I tried to add my photo but it didn't work yet I just wrote the name of the file in my despktop right?

Rima Thanks

Hi Rima I saw your page. You uploaded a beautiful picture.

If you have an image editor you could resize it to 120px width (max). Then go to your image's page and select: "Upload a new version", then upload the smaller pic. Or

Keep the original picture, which is great, and upload the new pic with a different name.

I have an image editor, so I can do this for you.

I'll be out Wikieducator for some hours, now its 3:10 in Mexico, I'll be back at 8:00pm.

Cheers, Gladys

Hi Jyoti, No problem. Anything you need, please let me know. Gladys

Thoughts on the layout for the Math glossary (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Hi,

I've been playing around with the potential layout for individual terms in the glossary:

See for example: MathGloss/A/Absolute_Value

In this format:

  • We don't need a subheading for definition or definitions if we're using the pedagogical template for defintions
  • I've added a subheading for alternative definitions, eg from Wikipedia or other sources

Once we're happy with the format we can generate an inputbox template which will populate the prospective page with the standard headings. I'm happy with helping you set this up.

Cheers

Hi Wayne, I think we are getting closer to the definitive layout. I have been analysing the chance to insert various definitions of each term in order to be consistent to the different user ages. e.g. the definition of the term "triangle" must vary in function of the academic level (or age) of the user, or the project.

Here in Mexico, our educational system consist mostly on:

  • Kindergarden: 2 years (4-5yr old)
  • Primary education: 6 years (6-12 yr old)
  • Secondary education: 3 years (13-15 yr old)
  • Terciary education (preparatory): 3 years (16-18 yr old)
  • University : 4 or 5 years depending on the career.

I don't know the categorization criteria for other countries.

What do you think about adding various definitions for different ages?

The inputbox template is an excellent idea. The less technical issues for users, the more prolific contents we will obtain.

I am happy too to be helpful for WE.

Happy New Year!!

Gladys

I am planning to invite all the math teachers in the wiki to make it grow. Warm warm warm greetings Gladys Gahona --chela5808 03:04, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip for improving the page header for sub-pages (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Hi,

The Math pages are coming along nicely --- I like the idea of the glossary :-)

I see that you're using sub-pages to structure content -- great!!!

We have cool template feature in WE to improve the usability of the page header displayed to the user. Long urls can be confusing for the reader.

If you have a page displaying:

Big cats/Tigers/White tigers

You can shorten the display title of the header using this template:

{{MyTitle|White tigers}} on the page www.wikieducator.org/Big Cats/Tigers/White tigers

This template will display the page header "White tigers" rather than the long ugly title :-)

See for example:

MathGloss/A

and

MathGloss/A/Acute_Angle

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi Wayne, Thank you for your message. I celebrate you like this project. I guess you mean shorten each title. You are right, this will be my next step. Cheers Gladys

No worries --

Just a little tip so you can keep using your sub-page structure -- but improving the usability display for the user.

Cheers

Hi, Gladys. Thanks for visiting my user page and leaving a comment. It is very interesting to see what other people have done. Not only did I enjoy visiting your user page, I have also enjoyed visiting your country. One of my best holidays was in Playa del Carmen which was fabulous. I think if I lived there, I would not want to leave! Best regards, Karen McDaniel

I think you can add a colourful or plain border to your page.

Hi Malisa, I've seen Gita Mathur's green border. You mean a border like that? I'm not yet ready on templates, but I can make some experiments with html and css Thanks for your opinion. I'll try to do something and let you know. Warm greetings Gladys Gahona
