What is it about jazz?

In the Jazz Awareness Interaction, you can sample highly regarded artists and songs to expand your awareness of the culture of jazz.

Summary

Studying the culture of a people requires familiarity and understanding of the major artisans and their works. As we experience their works, we can notice our reactions and preferences.

The design of The Jazz Awareness Interaction provides a roadmap for expanding your awareness of a major Afro-American, American, and global cultural phenomena - jazz music. Based on the selected jazz performances and writings, the activities open doors to personal awareness in experiencing jazz music: whether you are meeting jazz or it is already a familiar acquaintance. At the end of the roadmap, you will describe your personal awareness of jazz throughout this five-hour interaction.

The interaction consists of listening to all the selected songs, reading short jazz articles, and describing your responses takes about about 5 hours. Although the instructor makes every effort to deliver accurate and valuable learning materials, all content is provided without any warranty.

Let's get started with the Objectives, Roadmap, and Questions!

Feedback and notes from my WikiNeighbours

  • Jim, I am very impressed by the quality of your work and of the wiki skills you have mastered. Kudos!!! --Nellie Deutsch 07:01, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
    • Nellie, thank you so very much for your kind remarks! I am very happy with this educational venue, so I will keep the door open for review and comments. We live in exciting times for learning about learning! Jim
  • Jim - I've wanted to make the connection between music and WikiEducator for some time....I think there are many possibilities...could we start a page somewhere to discuss, how we could bring in other musicians and arts folk...to see what they want to create? (BTW: what country/area are you from? Randy Fisher
    • Randy, right on! I like your approach of music + WE. Country=USA | Area=Seattle, WA. Where you at? Jim
      • I'm in Vancouver, Canada - could we chat by phone? Randy Fisher 01:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
        • Sounds like great step ahead! Why don't I call you? Do you prefer to chat on Wednesday morning or Thursday afternoon? If not these, I'd understand and work with you on making other arrangements. Jim
            • Wednesday morning is fine - 9ish?.... I'll send over an email with my phone number. Randy Fisher 01:42, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Nellie - thank you for the revisions. My next step is to add the Web Resources template. Jim
  • Jim, nice work here. Just two gentle comments: 1)Kindly note that pedagogical templates may sometimes cloud a page and thus should be used sparingly. Perhaps adding a few paragraphs not encased in the templates themselves will do here.; 2)After completing your content here, you will need to move it to a main WikiEdcuator page, eg. www.wikiweducator.org/Jazz Awareness Course instead of it currently being a sub-page of your user page. Excellent contributions so far and many thanks for this. --Victor P. K. Mensah 09:43, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
