Curriculum stages (1)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

In India at the National level (NCERT) we refer to grades 1-5 as primary, 6-8 as middle, 9-10 as senior secondary, and 11-12 as secondary.

Yours thoughts on this. Savithri

Dear Savithri ji,

It is a fine categorization of curriculum stages, but with respect to the stage names, I think the ‘middle’ seems to be not a perfect name for a curriculum stage. Similarly if the name Senior Secondary had come after Secondary it would have been more self-explanatory than the existing pattern. If it makes some sense please trigger a discussion at NCERT.

Regards
Anil

US and UK also refers to 6-8 as middle. As also many other places. Ur reaction! Savithri

It is getting very interesting...

still I think, middle, as a name is too generic compared to primary and secondary. Primary and Secondary can even be linked to growth phases, biologically.
