Motion to nominate a chair pro tempore

I move to elect a chair pro tempore by normal resolution prior to the adjournment of the current meeting. The Interim chair will be responsible for calling the next meeting and preside over the election of the first officers of the WikiEducator Council. --Wayne Mackintosh 19:03, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Clarifications

1. The chair pro tempore for the next meeting will oversee the election of the permanent Chair, Deputy Chair and Executive secretary as the minimum number of required officers.
2. The chair pro tempore for the next meeting will not be excluded from voting for or, election as permanent Chair.
3. The chair pro tempore will oversee handling of any motions tabled before a permanent Chair is elected, including on whether or not to elect an Executive Committee and if that is approved any subsequent resolution for the determination of the minimum qualifications to serve on the Executive Committee.

Discussion

So I understand correctly the intention of this is that the real permanent elected Chair would take on the meeting once elected, and that this would be the first order of business in the next meeting? In other words, that the Chair pro tempore would be handling only the selection of the permanent Chair? --SteveFoerster 20:06, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Good question Steve, my recommendations are that the Chair pro tempore should oversee:

• the election of the permanent Chair, Deputy Chair and Executive secretary as the minimum number of required officers
• The nominated Chair pro tempore should not be excluded from voting for or, election as permanent Chair
• I think that it would be both prudent and wise for the Chair pro tempore to chair the resolution on whether or not to elect an Executive Committee and if there is an affirmative resolution that the Chair pro tempore should also oversee the resolution for the determination of the minimum qualifications to serve on Excom. There is a requirement that Council must determine verifiable metrics regarding the eligibility to serve on Excom (if so decided). Members of this meeting have put forward compelling arguments that Council should be restricted to elected members and similarly, Council may decide to restrict elibility to Excom to elected members -- as well as any other additional requirements.

Assuming there is consensus -- we may consider amending this motion to include the responsibilities identified here as part of the TORs for the Chair pro tempore -Wayne Mackintosh 21:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
