Year 7 & 8 Rabbit Island Camp

The end of year adventure has been organised by the year 7 and 8 pupils. As part of this they are to have worked through the complexities of organising the camp, liaising with their parents and managing equipment. The overall goal for the camp is to use the outdoors to enrich all aspects of the curriculum and provide further opportunities for learning, personal growth and social development.

Key Objectives

  • Develop self-confidence and a sense of adventure
  • Assist in social development by placing them with others in unfamiliar situations
  • Help develop an attitude of responsibility, particularly towards their own safety and that of others
  • Increase knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the local district and unfamiliar places
  • Students will depart from school arriving back at school the following day about the same time
  • We will walk with all the gear to and from the Island - at low tides
  • We will require parental assistance

What to bring:

  • Backpack (or school bag & cloth shopping bags) also plastic bags for gear
  • Raincoat
  • Togs
  • Small towel or head scarf
  • 2 pairs of shoes -one pair suitable for getting wet
  • Warm clothes
  • Sleeping bag
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Tents/tarpaulin – pupils to supply
  • Sleeping mat
  • Sunhat/beanie
  • Torch
  • Medication
  • 3 litres of water
  • Cup, bowl, spoon, fork, knife
  • Pocket knife

Food - enough for 24 hours:

  • Students to supply their own and organise with you and the rest of their group
    • To include dinner, breakfast and lunch and some snacks
  • Also needed are cooking utensils - pots and a gas cooker
  • The school will bring a large cooking pot and toilet paper
No jeans, electronics, make-up

Emergency:

  • First aid kit
  • Sunblock
