Project Gutenberg
Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. You can find full copies of most classics here, and lots more.

Open Clip Art Library
This project aims to create an archive of clip art that can be used for free for any use.
All graphics submitted to the project should be placed into the Public Domain according to the statement by the Creative Commons. All graphics are is SVG format so they can be modified.
Stock.XCHNG
This site has tons of free Stock Photos. It also links to commercial stock photos at the bottom of your Search results.
Flickr.com
Photo Sharing Website where you can find also free photos.
Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons is a media repository that is created and maintained not by paid-for artists, but by volunteers. Its name "Wikimedia Commons" is derived from that of the umbrella project "Wikimedia" managing all Wikimedia projects and from the plural noun "commons" as its contents are shared by different language versions and different kinds of Wikimedia projects. Thus it provides a central repository for freely licensed photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text, video clips, and media of all sorts that are useful for any Wikimedia project.
Search is not as intelligent as that of Stock.XCHNG but all the material is licenced under Crative Commons

The Freesound Project
The Freesound Project is a collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds. Freesound focusses only on sound, not songs.
Great for sound effects etc.
ccMixter
This is a community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons, where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want.
Moslty Modern/Experimental and Electronic music but also some piano and instrumental peices
Software For Preparing Media
This section is for free software that can be used to prepare media ( Crop/enhance images, edit sounds etc.) for use in Coursware.
TheGIMP
Probably the best Free Image editing software out there.
GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
Audacity
Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.
Inkscape
Inkscape is an open source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.
FreeMind
FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java. The recent development has hopefully turned it into high productivity tool.
