Philip - you're a star - thanks for all your help. Don't know what we would have done without your technical experitise. Thanks mate --Mackiwg 07:19, 9 August 2006 (CEST)

Completion bar template

Hey Phillip,

This is looking very good I like it very much.

This has triggered a thought for a slightly more complex template - but particularly relevant to the development of educational content in a wiki-environment

There are essentially four categories of "input" into an asynchronous learning resource:

  • Content development (usually by subject matter experts)
  • Learning Design (usually by an Instructional designer)
  • Visual and Multimedia design (Layout, images, graphics multi-media etc).
  • Copy editing

Can you visualise a Bar divided into these four categories, distinguished by bright primary colours. And then each sub-bar assuming four states (25% ; 50%; 75%; 100%)

This could provide a quick overview of the work still required on a particular page.

If we're smart - we could link the template using categories to a "Pages needing your attention" on the portal page. Do you think this is doable? --Mackiwg 02:53, 3 February 2007 (CET)

Wow - that design bar is cool!

Hey Philip - that looks pretty impressive. Good idea on the graphics/icons - I'll get our designer to work on a set. --Mackiwg 07:48, 3 February 2007 (CET)

Philip - yes, nice tool! Can you put some instructions in the talk page for it on how to include it in pages? brent 01:22, 4 February 2007 (CET)

Re: Templates:

Sorry, I realised soon, that I was saving the wrong one :-) I was trying to ad a new one - I´ll be careful in the future!

Stet tool

Phil, no I haven't seen the stet tool in action. But I do like the idea of an essay type of activity. Is there an easy link where I can see stet in action - (Haven't scanned all the links - trying to save time ;-) ). Looks like I will be able to gather enough funding together to get the LQT discussion forum tool completed. --Mackiwg 20:40, 17 February 2007 (CET)

You get first prize for the photo challenge!

Hey Phsi - the Copyleft in the mirror is just perfect!

When I return from Delhi - I'm going change the current image for the winning photo! Thanks mate. --Mackiwg 15:58, 27 February 2007 (CET)

Hi Phsi - Yes I saw the COL pen - pretty cool. I'm sure that it wasn't an easy shot - that's why I asked a professional ;-). The Stet annotations are pretty impressive. I'm going to explore this further. Off to cast my vote for pre installed linux on Dell notebooks. --Mackiwg 06:54, 28 February 2007 (CET)

Check out Wikieducator_tutorial/What_is_free_content/Licenses#The_problem - for a professional image! --Mackiwg 07:02, 28 February 2007 (CET)

Unique Symbols

Hi Phillip:

Don't you think it would be nice to add some of the fractions and other unusual characters to Wikieducator? We should be able to access the characters and features available in wiki and other text editors. --Ksthill 17:01, 12 March 2007 (CET)

Ok I'll see what i can do --Phsi 09:27, 12 March 2007 (CET)

Collapsable Boxes

Phillip: there is an example of collapsable boxes here:

The syntax looks like this:

<div class="NavFrame"> <div class="NavHead">What is a Wiki?</div> <div class="NavContent"> content goes here </div> </div>

Greetings - would you have a gap to look at this template

Hi Phsi,

Have arrived back safely to a rainy and overcast Vancouver ..;-(. Stella (my bike) is not going to get much time on the road today.

I've been fooling around with an attribution template for Flickr. It's a little untidy - because I've been trying to incorporate an error message feature in the case where a user does not specify an author or url location for the resource.

The template is already being used - so that's good news. I've noticed that some users are incorporating CC-BY-SA-NC images - which is OK if we clearly mark the image as NC. So I've been thinking about an additional attribute where the user can specify the license, for example CC-BY, CC-BY-SA or CC-BY-SA-NC. If this is specified then the template should insert the CC graphic (for example: CC-BY.png or CC-BY-SA.png) with a click-pick link to the actual CC license.

This is where I've been playing - but have not had any success to reference the CC-BY image when specifying a license in the template. If you get a spare moment before flying back to Malta - I'd appreciate it.

This is where I've been playing Template:FA2 - because I don't want to mess up pages where the template:FA is being used.

mp3's for the Comic interaction

Wow - the comic interaction is looking good!

Do you want to have a bash at recording an MP3 for each slide. If you can forward the presentation as an odp plus one MP3 for each slide - I'll get this up on WikiEducator using the flash slide show container.

Nice work!

I recognise the location!

Mascots and Flickr template

I really like the proposed mascots - I'm wondering whether we shouldn't place a notification on the mailing list to get folk talking about this. What do you think?

Agreed - the inline error message does look ugly - that's the idea <smile>. What I'm trying to do is capture the attribution error when its made. Its difficult to go back and find an image post hoc. If we give an error message when the image is loaded, I think we will have a better chance of reducing non-attributed or incorrectly attributed images.

You're right - we should also include proper attribution where the image is uploaded onto WikiEducator, and this is the correct way. I guess that because I'm an educator - I've have this urge to want to educate folk on propper attribution.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Phsi,

The social bookmarking template {{SB}} is a clever syntax developed by the MOSEP team. Its pretty smart feature which enables a User to tag a WikiEducator page - it will automatically parse the url of the page to the relevant social bookmarking site.

They asked me whether we could implement this functionality in the navigation bar - but I suspect it may require a little more work. So on the interim I transferred their sytax into a template.

Cheers --Mackiwg 03:48, 19 June 2007 (CEST)

Hey - clever man! Why didn't I think of that solution for the CC-BY and CC-BY-SA images! I must also add one for CC-BY-SA-NC ...;-( - because I see that some users are incorporating these into WikiEducator pages. Legally permissible if clearly specified on the page - which is also another reason why I would like this clearly stated on the content page in addition to the image upload. Agreed the error message is UGLY, badly done and all that - just can't think of a smarter way to do this.
Thanks mate!

Which page to contribute?

Hi Philip.

Hi there, this is Badeli from Swaziland. How are you doing? Its been very hectic for me since I got back, what with preparing reports anfter reports and manuscripts for the publishers for books that have to be in the classrooms by January next year. The schools have closed for 2nd Term, and am ready to complete my assignments from T & T. I reckon it is better late than never. And besides I met very nice people like you there and I dont want to lose touch with you.

By the way, where do I write my content, on the ARTICLE page or Discussion page? I want to finish my assignments by Friday 31st. Please reply to : Soonest please. Badeli

Can you help with a template

Hi Phsi,

I trust that you're well. I'm wondering whether you could help me out with a template I'm trying to create - possibly when you have a few moments when partners are deciding what to do <smile>.

Here is an example on Wikipedia -

I've tried to adapt this for the wiki table syntax in WikiEducator (as my html skills are very rusty) -

You can see an example of my meagre progress thus far here:

I cannot get the "|" after the label/heading cell not to display, otherwise the layout of the parameter (if provided) doesn't display properly. I only want the parameter strings to display in the table if provided by the user.

Any ideas or fixes?
