Introduction
Omari Mponda is a Principal Agricultural Research officer, Naliendele Agricultural Research Institute, based in Mtwara,Tanzania working with Oilseeds Research Programme and specifically dealing with sesame and groundnuts breeding but of recent he has interest on Bambara groundnuts and Plant pesticides technologies for crop protection.
Professional and academic qualification
PrincipalPlant Breeder working with Oilseeds a PhD holder from University of East Anglia School of Development Studies (1996)UK; He did his MSc in Agriculture at Kishinev Agricultural University in former USSR (Moldova)in 1989. His advanced levelsecondary education was at Pugu Secondary School in Dar es Salaam,O-level at Ndanda Secondary School School at Nandembo, Tunduru, Tanzania.
Professional achievements
Omari has published a number of papers and has released a number of sesame and groundnut improved varieties in Tanzania including:

- Lindi 2002 and
- Mtwara 2009
these varieties command high yielding ability up to 1.5t/ha, high oil content and disease resistance;
groundnuts
- Pendo-98,
- Sawia-98,
- Mnanje, *Mangaka 2009,
- Masasi 2009,
- Naliendele-2009,
- Nachingwea 2009;
the groundnut varieties command high yielding of over 1.5 t/ha highly preferred by farmers and markets in Tanzania.
