### Introduction

• Teacher tells some real life stories to introduce the topic. Individual students to answer orally and show working on the board with the help of class members.

Example of story:

Teruka had $20. He bought 6 apples for$8.25, 2kg of sugar for $2.10 per kilogram and 50c for 2 pencils? 1. How much money did Teruka spend for the apples and the 2 kilogram sugar? 2. How much money did Teruka spend for a kilogram sugar and 2 pencils? 3. What is Teruka's change after he bought the 3 items? 4. If Teruka bought only 2 kilograms of sugar, how much money has he left? After doing the exercise together then, 1. Group students into 4s or 5s 2. Distribute work cards to each group 3. Allow students to solve the problems in own group for 10 minutes 4. Listen to report from each group ### Group Work • Work card 1 Teruka and Logotau's father gave them$15.25 each as their pocket money for a month. Logotau spent $5.75 for buying his reading book and$8.10 for his Mathematical set. Teruka spent $4.25 for his lunch and$1.25 for apples.
