EIGHT GREAT TIPS FOR KEEPING PROMISES TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS

Hi,

Having trouble keeping promises? Then this is the article for you! Read on......

About only two-three hundred years ago a man's word was his bond and a handshake was enough to close a deal. Now contracts are valid only if written on paper in the presence of lawyers and it is enough to have a plausible excuse to break a promise.

How often do we tell someone "I'll call you","I really want to watch this movie. I'll clean up as soon as the commercials are on", "I will buy you CHOCO bisquit," "I will definitely get back in shape before the summer"?

I admit that I am guilty of making such promises and then fulfilling them partially or having to go back on my word and explain why I could not do it.

May I be quick to say that faithfulness and the ability to keep promises are KEY qualities of great/successful people. Therefore, you need to polish up these skills IF you are to move up the ladder of success!

Here are 8 Great Tips that will help you to become a man/woman of your word!!

1. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

However good the intention, before making a promise to anyone (even to yourself), ask yourself if you will be able fulfill it. Do you really have the opportunity, time and desire to stick to your word?

2. ASK YOURSELF IF YOU MEAN IT

Research shows that it is possible to detect whether a person is about to break a promise before they voice i! It means that on some level we already know if we will do something or not. Therefore before making a promise asks, yourself if you really mean it.

3. ANALYZE YOUR MOTIVATION BEHIND THE PROMISE

Why are you making a particular commitment in the first place? Do you really want to help? If you are making a promise for the wrong reasons, the chances are that you will not follow through with it.

4. START TAKING PROMISES SERIOUSLY

A promise to anyone else (or to yourself for that matter) is not just another task on your to-do list that you can put off for later. It is an inner contract that you make with yourself. And breaking this contract wears away trust and hurts yourself-image. Take your commitments seriously!!

5. TURN A PROMISE INTO A WRITTEN CONTRACT

Written contracts have much more "validity" than spoken words. Maybe because breaking a signed contract is often associated with very negative consequences like fines or problems with the law. To start taking your words seriously and sticking to your commitments try a business-like approach –SIGN A CONTARCT WITH YOURSELF. I mean it! Type it, sign it, and put it somewhere you can see it.

6.IF YOU CANNOT DO IT WHEN YOU SAID, DO IT LATER

In case something prevents you from keeping your word, look for the first opportunity to fulfill what you have promised. It is better to get it done later than not do it at all.[Better late than never] Just,, donot blow it the second time around.lol

7.DEVELOP STATEMENTS OF FAITH!!

Keeping promises does not happen by accident. It is a direct result of unwavering commitment on the part of the promiser!

Therefore to help you keep your promises develop statements of faith such as "Count it Done!," "For you I Will" and "My word is as good as a BANK OF ZAMBIA CHEQUE!! lol

8. DONNOT MAKE ANY PROMISES AT ALL
Finally, There is one simple, but sure-fireway to stick to your promises 100% of the times – DO NOT GIVE ANY!! Don't make promises if you can't meet them!!

The better you are at keeping your word, the more friends you have and vise versa

The world is crying for and rewards HONEST people; dare to be different.

I hope this helps us all to be trust worthy & to be men/women of our word!!

Until next time,

1. Leadership

Icon define.gif
Definition

John C. Maxwell defines leadership as influence Put simply leadership is the ability to inspire, motivate, and direct people to move, act, or behave in a certain way in order to achieve desired results.

2.The source of true leadership

In order to understand true leadership it is important to understand the role of leadership. The Bible in Genesis 1:26 says and I paraphrase: "and God said let us make man in our own image. we will give him dominion/ruler-ship over animals and vegetation."

From the above we discover that leadership comes from God, the creator. Right from the beginning of the world God endowed man with the ability to lead. Therefore leadership comes naturally but what is important is for an individual to develop it and nature it.

We can then conclude to say leadership is not necessarily restricted to a position, exercise of control over others, the number of people reporting to you and so on. instead it is about one exercising dominance in a particular area of gifting!

3.The link between leadership and gifts Each one of us is uniquely gifted. Its very important that you discover what your gift is. Greatness in life is always a result of discovering ones gift, refining it, developing it and giving it out to the world. Self discovery is therefore key to leadership, "greatness"

Self discovery Template:Self assessement

  1. who am I?
  2. who do people say i am
  3. why was i born?
  4. what do I love doing?
  5. what can I do 24/7 days a week for 365 days in a year without pay?

Once you find answers to the above questions you are on the road to greatness. To answer the above questions; look within not without. Your gifting lies within you. it is that fire that burns in your heart making you jump & say "I wanna do that!!!!"
