Objectives

By the completion of this introduction you should be able to explain why the school holidays are being changed in New Zealand in 2011 and have begun to think about what your feelings are about this change. discuss how and why people might have different opinions about moving the school terms to accommodate the Rugby World Cup final describe the history of the Rugby World Cup and some of the reasons why the event is important not only to rugby teams and fans but to the countries which get to host the competition

NOTES

OK deleted the content and process objectives. Instead have brought all the activity objectives to the top. 2 reasons why... firstly because these objectives relate directly to the activities below and, secondly the other objectives did not align directly to the activities and associated objectives. This goes against the marking criteria where there needs to be explicit alignment between goals and activities...

Also thought the process activities only need to be in the teacher notes... thoughts?

Are there any similarities and differences? Where do the biggest changes happen? Discuss these with your partner and why you think this is so. Be prepared to share your thoughts with the class. Read the article below. With your partner discuss the reasons for the dates being changed. Can you think of any other reasons for changing the dates? Be prepared to share your thoughts with the class.

Team Game Tournament What do we know about the Rugby World Cup? Your teacher will divide the class into teams for this activity. You will have to work with the members of your team to answer a series of questions about the Rugby World Cup. You will be given an article to read which will help you answer the questions, but as a group you will need to do some thinking as well! It’s important that everyone in your team understands the answers you come up with, because at the end of the activity you will go head to head with the other teams in a competition for points, and everyone in your team will need to contribute if you are to win the tournament (and the prize that goes with it).
