MEET LARRY HORE NJUNGU

/LARRY ON FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

journalist,trainer and media activist

ABOUT MY SELF

Work experience

My experience in journalism spans over a decade and half. I have participated in this profession mainly at three levels.

From 1989 to 1999 I worked for the then Zambia Information Services (ZIS) where I rose from the position of Reporter up to the rank of sub-editor. The organisation is now called Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS).

Whilst at Zambia Information Services, I wrote news and feature articles for syndication to local Newspapers and also produced some Radio and Television packages for the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). I was again writing and editing Zambia Information Services’ monthly Magazine called “Z” Magazine which was distributed locally and internationally using Zambian Embassies abroad.

From 1999 to 2006, I ventured into training and lectured at Africa Literature Centre, in Kitwe, Zambia and then moved to Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) in Lusaka where I rose to the position of Print Training manager.

From 2006 to 2010 I went into a media activism. During this time, I actively participated in campaigns aimed at creating a favourable economic and legl environment in which the journalism profession in Zambia could operate. I executed this campaign through my then employment as Information, Research and Programmes officer with the Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) and later Executive Secretary or Chief Executive Officer of the same organisation.

What am doing now

Currently, I am not permanently employed by any organisation but do consultancy in various areas of the profession. I also lecture students in some journalism courses at Copperstone University, a privately owned university located in Kitwe town of Zambia. Again I lecture at a college known as Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation, equally based in Kitwe, Zambia.

I am still in media politics and from time to time I do add a voice to how an ideal media should operate in a country like Zambia and contribute to democracy, good governance and overall national development.

Availability

I am open and ready to work with any individual or orgarnisation who feel I can contribute to their objective/s based on the brief I have given.
