I was appointed and confirmed as the Director of Education on 29 August 2005.
- 26 Nov - 02 Dec 2008: Participated in the L4C workshop conducted by Leigh Blackall. This was when I had this set up :)
I joined the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports in February, 1997 as the Senior Education Officer.
I was mainly responsible for the Assessment and Examination Unit as well as the Primary School Section of the Department.
During these years I usually deputised for the Director of Education (DOE) as well as acted as DOE in the DOE's position. The longest I have acted in the DOE's position was when the previous DOE took up another position as Centre Director of Tuvalu's USP Campus - this was from Oct 2004 to August 2005.
I joined the Fetuvalu High School staff as a Language teacher in 1990.
I was on study leave fom 1992 --1993 to undertake further studies at the La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia for the Bachelor in Education (TESOL)
I was Principal of the school from 1994 - 1996
I joined the staff of the Tuvalu USP Extension Centre as it was known then as an administrative assistant.
This was where I learned and experienced administrative work. I was more interested in teaching though <smile> I only lasted a year on this job.
I graduated from the Nasinu Teaches' College, Suva, Fiji in 1981 and started teaching in 1982 at the Nauti Primary School, Funafuti as a Class (Year) 3 teacher.
I had also taught in other primary schools in the country - Tolise Primry School, Vaitupu; Uepele Primary School, Niutao and at Vaipuna Primary School, Nui.
- I was one of the primary school Key English Language Teachers (KELT). This was when the TULIP Readers were developed under the expert guidance of Dr Ifti Ayaz
- Undertook the Diploma in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL) at the Victoria University of Wellington, NZ in 1987
