Testing the idea of a template to embed media without violating principles of freedom. {{EmbedMedia}} displays videos in free file formats, even on non-free operating systems. Those who respect freedom and use free software are not regarded as 2nd class citizens. Embedded free file format media play immediately on free software operating systems with no non-free software installed (no requirement to separately download a free format file and view it un-embedded). Widespread use of HTML5 might obviate the need for this template.

One problem is whether people who are (for whatever reason) are restricted to non-free software will be able to view the video. The solution here (which does not involve downloading and converting files) is to use Cortado which will be loaded automatically.

Cortado on Windows: After clicking the play button, click on 'More' and select Cortado. You will need Java installed and the plugin to be able to view/play Java applets. Cortado will need to load first and then Cortado loads the full video which takes a bit of time.

Vista: Java plugin installs automatically as soon one browses to a page containing an applet. IE's security settings may need adjusting. For example, the w:Polar bear videos seem fine. The other videos on this page ... not always ??
