Originally of Matsungan Island which is in the Tonsu Local Level Government. My Hamlet (Sinban) is almost 3 Kilometres from Kahule village on the West Coast of Buka Island.Sinban is a small island surrounded by mangroves on three sides with water (inlet) flowing in the front, used as the achorage or landing. There are 4 houses making up the hamlet and only six people are living there while I am away. our biggest problem there is having fresh clean water.

About Me

Like most Bougainvilleans, I am dark (Black skin)of medium height. I love my work as a course writer with the Flexible ,Open and Distance Education.

Education

I hold a Bachelor in Education Degree, a Diploma in Secondary Teaching from Goroka Teacher's college. I did a two year diploma in Commerce program at the University of technology but I never graduated because I withdrew from one subject, Quantitative Methods (Maths). I don't know know whether I will ever graduate because it is now getting very late.

My Work

Current

I am currently employed by the Department of Education, attached to the FODE Head quarters as a curriculum officer. I am the senior officer in the Commerce/Business Studies section.

Previous

From year 1996 to 2000, I was based in Buka as the Bougainville Provincial CODE coordinator. I helped establish the current centre at Kubu and actually had the coordinator's residence built. I was a course writer with the then CODE at Konedobu from 1991 to 1993 before taking leave to study at the UPNG from 1994 to 1995. I was a high school teacher previously and taught at Bugandi High School in Morobe province, Buin High School in Bougainville, George Brown High school in East New Britain Province and Lae High School in Lae, Morobe province.

Achievements

I treasure the years 1996 to the year 2001, before my return to headquarters. I learnt alot of things and I think I contributed to the peace process in Bougainville. I was able to witness and experience some of the difficulties faced by the people during the Bougainville crisis. I helped to set up study centres and enrol many students, encourage many more to continue their education as the Provincial coordinator. I consider my contributions to the education in Bougainville during that period as a big achievement.

Future Plans

I plan to leave to settle in my little place after 2009. I still don't know exactly what I'm going to do back there. Maybe I will just be an ordinary village woman, fishing and working the gardens. I really don't want to think about the details yet. I have a vision to work and involve myself with the youths and women's affairs.

My Contributions to OER's from L4C3
