Schedule

Week 1 (July 20 - 24) Venue - Restaurant

We would like you to come to H516 at 9.30am on Monday, July 20


Your first week will be working with the School of Hospitality on two courses:

1. Learning how to prepare and serve a hot and cold non-alcoholic drink - US 14425 2. Food Handling Safety - US 167

So your week will look like this:


Hot and cold beverage

Monday - 10am - 3pm

Tuesday - 10am - 3pm

Wednesday - 10am - 3pm

Friday - 11am - 12noon


Food Handling Safety

Thursday - 8.30am - 5pm

Friday - 10am - 11am (Resit)


Week 2 (July 27 - 31) Leadership - Venue H516

All classes now from Monday to Thursday

This weeks classes will start at 8.30am - 1pm.

In this course you will learn how to describe a range of leadership styles, and identify leadership styles for specified tourism contexts; and demonstrate interpersonal skills when leading in a group situation. You will also find yourself reading maps and navigating with a compass.

Week 3 (August 3 - 7) Leadership and Health and Safety - Venue H516

Classes begin at 8.30 - 1pm

Health and Safety will have begun and this week you will be looking closely at risk management. There will also be some outdoor activities so please bring appropriate clothing.

Week 4 (August 10 - 14) Health and Safety - Venue H516

In this course you will learn how to demonstrate knowledge of risk management theory; explain the health and safety roles and responsibilities of an individual working in a tourism organisation; demonstrate knowledge of the health and safety policies and procedures of a tourism organisation; and identify, record in writing, and take action on potential risks and hazards in a tourism activity.

Week 5 (August 17 - 21) - Health and Safety and Natural History - Venue H516

Health and Safety will be continued and Natural History will begin with an introduction to New Zealand's unique geology, climatic zones, wildlife, plants and trees. You will also have the opportunity to view some of these plants and wildlife firsthand.


Week 6 (August 24 - 28) Natural History - Venue H516

Week 7 (August 31 - Sept 4) Interpretation - Venue H516

In this course you will describe the principles of interpretation; describe and compare personal and non personal interpretation. This also incorporates a local course looking at preparing and implementing an interpretation plan for New Zealand attractions, activities and events (focused on our local region)

Week 8 (September 7 - 11) Frist Aid Certificate and resit - Venue H516

Lots of outdoor activity here - so remember to wear good walking shoes and bring a jacket.

Please wear appropriate clothing for first aid.
