Textbooks are just really big Open Educational Resources (OERs).
Many educators are reluctant to adopt individual Open Educational Resources (OERs). The time and effort to find, review and incorporate or adapt the material for a lesson or unity often outweighs the value added.
Textbooks offer a more comprehensive source of information. Many open textbooks have been written, edited and published by the same people who have developed print textbooks in the past. Several well respected organizations are overseeing formal reviews of open textbooks and reporting their recommendations.
