Recommendation 20 21st century skills

Recommendation 20. We recommend that the Government review 21st century skills in the context of digital literacy in our education system.

Comment: There is little need to review the skills – simply allow learners and teachers to continue with their current enthusiasms.
There is a need for specialised areas of Computing Science and Information Technology to be adequately funded and encouraged and in particular to encourage practitioners to participate in schools to excite students about career progression in the industry.
The NZIITP has programmes in this area and there are proposals for practitioners to run web-development (CCS3 and HTML5) courses in schools.
