Researcher: Gabi Witthaus, University of Leicester and the Open University (UK)

This survey is intended to be completed by individuals from OERTen institutions.

Purpose of study: To obtain the views of OERTen members on which factors are the most critical to successful implementation of the OERu concept. This data will in turn enable non-OERTen institutions to determine their "compatibility" with the OERu concept.

Further information: A series of statements has been drawn up which reflect the intentions of OERTen institutions regarding the implementation of the OERu. These statements are derived from interviews with individuals from the Anchor Partner institutions. Data is currently being gathered from UK Higher Education Institutions to establish the extent to which these statements reflect policies and practices in their institutions. The aim of this survey is to generate weightings for each statement based on the views of OERTen members, to indicate the extent to which the presence of each practice or policy is likely to contribute to the overall success of the OERu. These weightings will be used to enable non-OERTen institutions to determine the extent to which they already have the key policies and practices in place that are compatible with the OERu concept. Please note that, as this is a small-scale study, the findings will be indicative and will only tell a small part of a much bigger story. However, we hope that they will provide a useful reference point for discussion within and beyond the open education community. The collated results of the survey will be made available in the project blog (www.toucansproject.wordpress.com) in June 2012 and in a paper to be presented at the Higher Education Academy conference in Manchester in July 2012.
