Getting to Hobart

Hobart is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales. For more information about Hobart, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobart

About the University of Tasmania

Centenary Building, Sandy Bay campus


The University of Tasmania has currently more than 29,000 students spread across three main campuses and several satellite campuses in the state of Tasmania (the Sandy Bay campus in Hobart, the Newnham campus in Launceston and the Cradle Coast campus in Burnie) and two campuses in Sydney, where students study the Bachelor of Nursing.

Meeting venue

The Australian National Symposium on OER and the subsequent 3rd OERu Anchor Partner Meeting will be held at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), one of UTAS' satellite campuses in Hobart. The building is located on Hobart's waterfront, known as Salamanca Place, which is one of the most visited touristic places in Hobart due to its history, architecture, great dining and cafes. This is also where the Salamanca Market takes place every Saturday from 8:30am to 3pm.

Also, please make sure you book your accommodation early as Salamanca Place (and surroundings) is a popular tourist destination during this time of the year in Hobart.
