Leading open and distance learning in Nigeria and West African subregion

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is the largest university in Nigeria and West African subregion and the only single-mode provider of open and distance learning at the tertiary level.

With headquarters in Lagos, NOUN currently has over 180,000 students with 63 study centres spread across the nation. The University is a respected tertiary education provider and was recently ranked seventh within Nigeria and also received the European Quality Award in Education in 2011 at Oxford, United Kingdom, among others.

As an open university, NOUN is committed to widening access to educational opportunity. Its vision of providing highly accessible and enhanced quality education is underpinned by social justice, equity and equality. NOUN has established a dedicated Open Educational Resources (OER) Unit under the Office of the Vice Chancellor in order to propel further the objectives of the University.

To expand its commitment to open education and open online courses, NOUN has joined the OERu international partnership.
