In this unit we look at the role and influence that culture has on our perceptions and practice of psychology.

This unit should take you about 16 hours to complete.

Objectives
By the end of this unit, you should be able to:
  • define culture and give examples of some of the facets of culture
  • describe the differences between cultural, cross-cultural and indigenous psychology
  • better understand psychology in Aotearoa / New Zealand, and the relevance of Maori history and culture and of the Tiriti / Treaty of Waitangi to the study of psychology
  • describe how culture affects our perception and understanding of the world
  • understand how culture affects the way psychologists design and conduct research
  • understand how culture affects the way we practice psychology
